Ⅰ. Pressing Section of Palm Oil Extraction Plant
1. Sterilizing
Freshly harvested FFB should be processed within 24 hours to prevent the rise of free fatty acids.
High-temperature sterilization has two key functions:
Stops enzymatic activity that increases acid value
Softens fruit bunches for easier fruit separation
2. Threshing
A rotating drum thresher loosens and removes palm fruits from sterilized bunches.
Typically, the fruits represent about 60% of the FFB weight.
3. Digesting
In the digester, the fruits are stirred and mashed to:
Break down the fruit skin
Separate pulp and nuts
Disrupt cell structure for maximum oil release
This step directly affects the efficiency of the pressing stage.
4. Pressing
Palm oil screw presses extract oil from the digested fruit mash.
The output mixture contains:
Crude palm oil
Water and debris
Press cake (fiber and nuts)
5. Clarification and Filtration
After pressing:
Fiber and solids are removed by gravity settling
Oil undergoes filtration and vacuum drying
The final product from this stage is crude palm oil (CPO).
