Dingsheng Machine: Advanced Oil Refining Solutions – Deodorization Process

Date:Nov 14th, 2024
Edible oils often carry distinct odors depending on their raw materials, such as the grassy smell of rapeseed oil or the beany aroma of soybean oil. Deodorization is a critical step in removing these undesirable odors. It also eliminates free fatty acids, peroxides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and pesticide residues to safe levels. This process improves the oil's smoke point, enhances its flavor, and ensures its safety for consumption.

Features of Deodorization Equipment
1, High-Quality Standards: Designed for efficiency and reliability, ensuring superior deodorization results.
2, Flexible Operation: Suitable for batch, semi-continuous, or continuous deodorization processes to match production needs.
3, Optimized Design: Engineered to minimize thermal oxidation while maintaining high vacuum and precise steam control.

Principle of the Deodorization Process
Deodorization relies on the significant volatility differences between odorous substances and triglycerides. Under high-temperature and high-vacuum conditions, steam distillation removes odor-causing compounds. This step also effectively reduces harmful substances such as free fatty acids, peroxides, and pesticide residues.

Process Flow of Deodorization
Pre-treatment:
Oils are subjected to degumming, deacidification, and adsorption decolorization before deodorization.
These steps ensure the removal of impurities such as phospholipids, trace metals, and adsorbents, which could hinder deodorization.

Steam Stripping:
High-quality steam is critical for effective deodorization. Boiler feedwater is treated for oxygen removal to prevent oil oxidation caused by dissolved salts or metal ions.
Steam undergoes rigorous separation to eliminate any condensate before entering the deodorization tower.

Steam Deodorization:
This is the core of the process. Parameters such as temperature, steam flow rate, and operating time are adjusted based on oil type and volatile component composition.
Continuous systems use approximately 4.0% direct steam, while semi-continuous systems require around 4.5%.

Types of Deodorization Equipment
Batch Systems: Ideal for smaller-scale operations, using low temperatures and extended durations for precise deodorization.
Continuous Systems: High-capacity operations with efficient steam utilization.
Semi-Continuous Systems: A balance between scalability and efficiency.
Structural options include single-shell deodorization vessels, double-shell systems, shallow-plate towers, and packed-tower designs. Each structure ensures optimal oil-steam contact, enhancing the process's efficiency.
