Dingsheng Machine Presents: Six Key Steps in Refined Palm Oil Processing for High-Quality Output
Date:Oct 14th, 2024
As a leader in oil processing equipment, Dingsheng Machine is proud to outline the six crucial steps in refined palm oil processing, showcasing our expertise in achieving the highest food-grade standards. These optimized procedures remove impurities, enhance color, and ensure a quality end product, supported by our state-of-the-art equipment designed for maximum efficiency.
1. Filtration Process:
In the initial filtration step, crude palm oil is heated and stirred at high temperatures to remove any foam. This is followed by adding a small amount of phosphoric acid (0.1%-0.2%), stirred for around 30 minutes. This treatment effectively prepares the oil for the next stages of purification.
2. Alkali Neutralization Process:
The alkali neutralization phase is essential for removing free fatty acids and impurities. Here, the oil is mixed with a precise blend of liquid caustic soda (0.5%) and liquid soda ash (1.5%). This neutralization transforms the oil, enhancing purity and setting the foundation for a refined end product.
3. Sedimentation Process:
After alkali neutralization, the mixture is heated to 50–52°C and stirred for about 10 minutes, allowing soap content to fully separate. The stirring is then stopped, and the mixture is left to settle for six hours, enabling natural separation of the soap from the oil, a critical step in refining.
4. Water Washing Process:
This stage involves removing any remaining soap stock by reheating the oil. A mixture of hot salt and alkaline water is added, maintained at 90°C, and stirred for about 30 minutes. Following this, wastewater is discharged, and fresh boiling water—15% of the net oil content—is added to further cleanse the oil. This step is repeated two to three times to ensure optimal purification.
5. Decolorization Process:
Decolorization is achieved by transferring the pre-treated oil into a vacuum-controlled decolorization tank, maintaining a vacuum level above 99 kPa. The oil is cooled to 70°C and then filtered to remove any remaining color impurities, resulting in a cleaner and more visually appealing product.
6. Deodorization Process:
In the final deodorization stage, both direct and indirect steam are used to remove any residual odors or color-related impurities. This step is crucial for enhancing the sensory quality of the refined oil, ensuring it meets food-grade standards with an improved color and no unwanted aromas.
